How to Be Sure You Are Saved: Finding Assurance Through Jesus Christ
How Can You Know Where You Stand With God?
One of the most important questions a person can ask is: “Am I right with God?” Many people wonder how they can have assurance of salvation and know that they will not be rejected or lost forever.
The Bible teaches that the first step toward understanding our relationship with God is recognizing who we are before Him. God is holy, righteous, and perfect, while humanity has a natural tendency to turn away from His ways and fall into sin.
Scripture teaches that all people have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard. Because of sin, we cannot make ourselves clean or restore our relationship with God through our own efforts. No amount of good works, religious activity, or personal achievement can remove the guilt of sin.
Without God’s mercy and a worthy Redeemer, humanity would have no hope.
God’s Love Provided a Way of Salvation
Although people have turned away from God, His love and mercy remain greater than our failure. God Himself provided the way for forgiveness and restoration.
At the appointed time, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save sinners. Jesus came as the promised Savior, taking upon Himself the penalty that sin deserved.
The Bible tells us:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
— John 3:16
Jesus did not come into the world simply to condemn people, but to offer salvation:
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
— John 3:17
Through His death on the cross, Jesus provided the perfect sacrifice for sin. His sacrifice is the foundation of forgiveness and eternal life for all who turn to Him in faith.
Why People Reject the Light of Christ
Although Jesus came to bring salvation, many rejected Him. Some refused to believe because they loved darkness more than the light.
Jesus explained:
“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.”
— John 3:19
Sin often causes people to resist God because His truth exposes what needs to change in our hearts. Yet God’s purpose is not to destroy us—His desire is that we turn from sin and receive His forgiveness.
The question is not whether we have failed, because every person has sinned. The question is whether we will humble ourselves, repent, and receive the salvation God offers through Jesus Christ.
How Can You Be Forgiven and Accepted by God?
The Bible teaches that salvation is not achieved through human effort. We cannot earn forgiveness by trying harder or doing enough good things. Salvation is God’s gift, received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
To receive God’s forgiveness, we must:
- Recognize our need for a Savior.
- Turn away from sin through genuine repentance.
- Believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again.
- Trust Him fully as Lord and Savior.
Those who come to Christ with humility and sincere faith are forgiven, cleansed, and welcomed into God’s family.
The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was the complete payment for sin. His precious blood was given as the ransom for our redemption, not because of our works, but because of God’s grace.
God Desires Repentance, Not Judgment
God does not delight in the destruction of sinners. He calls people to turn from their sinful ways and receive life.
The Lord declared through the prophet Ezekiel:
“I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, and live.”
— Ezekiel 33:11
This is God’s invitation: not rejection, but restoration; not condemnation, but forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
Do Not Lose Your Soul
Jesus warned about the danger of gaining everything in this world while losing what matters most:
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?”
— Mark 8:36
True security is not found in possessions, success, or human approval. True assurance comes from knowing Jesus Christ, trusting His sacrifice, and living in faithful obedience to Him.
You can be sure of God’s acceptance—not because of your own perfection, but because of the perfect work of Jesus Christ. Those who repent, believe, and place their trust in Him receive forgiveness, new life, and the hope of eternity with God.
