We may consider the Golden Rule to be a beginning of right religion. Matthew 7:12 says “Whatever you wish that others would do to you do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” The basic message from God our Maker can also be seen in Psalm 50: “The Mighty One, God the Lord, speaks and summons all the earth “that he may judge his people. I will speak O Israel, I will testify against you. Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you. For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. If I were hungry, I would not tell you…the world and its fullness are mine…offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and perform your vows to the Most High…and call for Me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me. But to the wicked [those who have chosen the broad way] God says for you hate discipline, and you cast my Word behind you. Jesus had taught in Matthew 7:13,14 “Enter [the kingdom of God] by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Psalm 50 continues “if you see a thief, you are pleased with him and you keep company with adulterers. You give your mouth free rein for evil. But now I rebuke you. Mark this, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart and there be no one to deliver. To one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God.” Now we see that those who have chosen to respect the Lord and to live uprightly in the narrow way, are those who are eligible to choose salvation. The only way, then, is by repentance from sin and faith in the Savior Jesus Christ for forgiveness and new life!
